Patna: Former Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) national president Nitish Kumar travelled to New Delhi on Friday to move into his newly allotted government residence ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Nitish Kumar, who is now a Rajya Sabha member, has been allotted a Type-8 government bungalow at 9, Sunahari Bagh Road, one of the most prominent addresses in Lutyens’ Delhi.
He travelled on a chartered flight accompanied by JD(U) national working president Sanjay Jha, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, and JD(U) MLC Lalan Saraf.
House-Warming Ceremony Held
A traditional house-warming ceremony was held at the residence on Thursday.
Senior leaders from the JD(U) and the BJP attended the religious rituals conducted before Nitish Kumar formally moved into the bungalow.
The relocation comes just days before the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on July 20.
Located In Delhi’s Power Centre
Nitish Kumar’s new residence is situated in Lutyens’ Delhi, close to several key institutions, including Parliament House, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Central Secretariat.
The official residences of senior political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, are also located in the vicinity.
The JD(U) leader had earlier indicated that he would remain in Delhi during Parliament sessions and spend the rest of his time in Patna.
What Is A Type-8 Bungalow?
Type-8 government accommodation is among the highest categories of official housing provided by the Centre.
Such residences are typically allotted to senior Union ministers, judges of constitutional courts and other top constitutional functionaries, reflecting the occupant’s seniority in public life.
These bungalows are built on large plots and generally feature landscaped lawns, spacious driveways, multiple bedrooms, formal drawing and dining areas, a study, staff quarters, office space and security facilities.
Their architecture reflects the distinctive colonial-era design associated with Lutyens’ Delhi.
Nitish Kumar To Attend Rajya Sabha Session
Following his election to the Rajya Sabha after stepping down as Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar is expected to participate regularly in proceedings during the upcoming parliamentary session.
While he also owns a private residence in Delhi, the newly allotted government accommodation will serve as his official base in the capital during Parliament sessions.
