Supaul: In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the 45th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has seized over 1,062 kg of ganja from the Indo-Nepal border. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth ₹4.24 crore in the international market.

The seizure was made near border pillar number 221, about 4 kilometers inside Indian territory, under the jurisdiction of the Narpatpatti border outpost. The operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs and led by Commandant Gaurav Singh of the 45th Battalion.

506 Packets of Ganja Recovered in 30 Sacks

According to officials, the SSB launched the operation after receiving credible information about a large consignment of narcotics hidden in the area. A team led by Sub-Inspector Bhav Singh Tomar swiftly moved to the location and conducted a thorough search operation.

“During a half-hour search operation, the team recovered 30 white sacks, each filled with ganja packets. A total of 506 packets were found and confirmed using a narcotics detection machine,” said an SSB spokesperson.

No Arrests Made, Ganja Handed Over to Police

Despite the successful seizure, no smugglers were found at the scene. The SSB has handed over the entire consignment to Bhaptiyahi Police Station for further investigation.

Continuous Vigil on the Indo-Nepal Border

The porous Indo-Nepal border has often been exploited for smuggling narcotics and other contraband. However, with increased vigilance, surveillance technology, and intelligence-based operations, agencies like the SSB have intensified efforts to clamp down on these networks.
