Patna: The Department of Transfusion Medicine, AIIMS Patna, marked National Voluntary Blood Donation Day by celebrating the successful completion of its “Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Drive” held from September 17 to October 2, as directed by the Ministry of Health.
The event was graced by Executive Director Brig. (Retd.) Dr. Raju Agrawal, along with Dr. Ruchi Shina (Dean Academics), Dr. Poonam Badani (Dean Student Affairs), Dr. Anup Shina (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Bankim Das (Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine) and faculty members Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Saurabh Lahare (Assistant Professor), and Blood Transfusion Officer Dr. Neha Singh. Students from the Nursing College and the entire Transfusion Medicine team also participated enthusiastically.

In his address, the Executive Director inspired students and faculty with motivating words, urging them to carry forward the mission of voluntary blood donation as a lifelong commitment. The Deans, Medical Superintendent, and faculty members also shared messages reinforcing the values of service, compassion, and community responsibility.
The celebration included Rangoli, Poster, and Slogan competitions, where students showcased their creativity and commitment to the cause. Winners were felicitated with trophies and prizes, making the occasion more memorable.
Highlighting the achievements of the campaign, Dr. Saurabh Lahare briefed the gathering about the outcomes of the mega drive, which included three outdoor blood donation camps (one with the Sant Nirankari Foundation and two with the Department of PSM), along with ongoing in-house voluntary donations. In total, over 300 units of blood were collected. He also emphasized the health benefits of blood donation for donors and the critical role such contributions play in supporting both emergency and elective surgeries requiring blood transfusion.
The program concluded with a call to sustain the momentum of voluntary blood donation drives, ensuring the availability of safe blood for patients in need.
