Patna: A passenger travelling on an Air India flight from Delhi to Patna has claimed that Rs 22,800 was stolen from his check-in luggage. The man, Nand Kumar Tiwari, is a resident of Bari village in Buxar district. He flew on Air India flight AI 2633 on 17 April and found out about the missing cash only after he reached home.
Tiwari said that he had kept Rs 25,000 in cash in his check-in bag, but when he opened it at home, only Rs 2,000 was left. He believes someone opened his bag and stole the money during the journey. His son, Kumar Abhigyan, quickly filed complaints with Air India teams in Delhi and Patna, as well as on the Air Sewa portal.
In response, Air India said that passengers should not keep valuable items in check-in bags and that such items are not covered under their compensation rules. They also asked the family to take the matter to local police. The airline later said they checked CCTV footage and baggage areas at both airports but found no signs of theft.
More than two months later, the family says they still haven’t received any proper answer or help. Tiwari has now filed an application at the airport police station in Patna. The police have promised to investigate and file an FIR if needed. The case has raised concerns about how airlines handle passenger complaints and protect their belongings.
