Patna: 19-Year-Old Woman Dies by Suicide in Barh

Patna: A 19-year-old woman died by suicide in Dahaur village, under Barh police station in Patna district, on Friday afternoon, allegedly due to fear of failing her intermediate examination. The deceased, identified as Kajal Kumari, was found hanging from a beam on the roof of her house.
According to her family, Kajal had been struggling with depression since her exams. Her mother-in-law, Usha Devi, said she wanted to attend tuition classes for better academic prospects, but her husband, Arvind Kumar, a painter by profession, opposed the idea. “He told her to either study at home or quit altogether,” she said.
The incident occurred when Kajal went to the roof with her two-year-old daughter. Moments later, the child returned downstairs crying, prompting the family to check upstairs, where they found Kajal hanging with a dupatta. With the help of locals, they brought her body down.
Sub-Inspector Navneet Rai of Barh police station confirmed that an investigation is underway. “We are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain further details,” he said.
Family members revealed that Kajal had previously attempted suicide multiple times. “We tried to counsel her several times,” a relative said. Her maternal family in Laxmipur has been informed of the incident.
