Patna: High-mast lights to be installed at 35 locations across Patna under a Rs 1.62 crore project aimed at improving illumination and public safety in the city.
The project, approved at an estimated cost of Rs 1.62 crore, will see the installation of 35 high-mast lighting systems across 30 wards within the Patna Municipal Corporation area. Officials said the initiative is intended to address poorly lit stretches of the city and improve visibility in key public spaces.
The scheme was taken up following a recommendation from Nitin Nabin, Bihar’s Minister for Road Construction and former MLA from Bankipur. It has since received formal approval and is being implemented under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
Each high-mast structure will be 12.5 metres tall, with installation work already underway at identified locations across the city. Authorities said the lights are expected to be commissioned in phases once civil and electrical work is completed.
Officials associated with the project said improved street lighting is expected to enhance night-time mobility and strengthen safety in densely populated and high-traffic areas. The installations are also intended to reduce dark stretches that have been a concern for residents in several wards.
The initiative is being viewed as part of broader urban infrastructure upgrades in Patna, with a focus on basic civic amenities such as street lighting and public safety infrastructure.
