Patna Administration Counters Prashant Kishor’s Protest Claims; Arrests and Courtroom Chaos
Patna: Political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, leader of the Jan Suraj Party, was arrested on Monday morning alongside 44 of his supporters for staging an “illegal dharna” at Gandhi Murti Park, a restricted area within Gandhi Maidan, according to a statement issued by the Patna District Administration. Kishor was later granted conditional bail by a court, though his refusal to comply with certain procedures led to delays and disruptions throughout the day.
Illegal protest leads to arrest
The administration stated that Kishor and his supporters were protesting with a five-point charter of demands at Gandhi Maidan, despite being notified to shift their demonstration to the designated protest site in Gardnibagh. An FIR was lodged against Kishor for refusing to comply with the notice. After repeated requests went unheeded, authorities arrested him and detained 44 others.
Health check-up controversy
Following his arrest, Kishor was taken for a mandatory health check-up, but officials alleged that he refused to cooperate at Patna AIIMS. His transfer to another health centre was delayed as 23 supporters in 12 vehicles allegedly obstructed police movement, leading to further detentions under charges of obstruction.
Kishor was eventually examined at the Fatuha Community Health Centre, where the administration reported that his health check-up was completed despite his disagreement being recorded. The administration dismissed allegations of pressure on the medical staff, stating that the doctor conducted the examination as per protocol and had denied any coercion by police.
Bail granted but conditions opposed
Kishor was presented before a court later in the day, where he was granted conditional bail on a bond of Rs. 25,000. However, his refusal to comply with the bail conditions caused further delays, with Kishor eventually agreeing to the terms in the evening. His advocates informed the media of the court’s decision but accused authorities of prolonging the process unnecessarily.
Chaos at the court
The district administration also accused Kishor’s supporters of creating “chaos” at the civil court premises, causing disruptions for other complainants, witnesses, and court proceedings. The administration alleged that this led to security concerns, prompting Kishor’s removal from the court premises to Beur Jail while awaiting further orders.
Administration defends actions
In its statement, the district administration emphasized that its actions were aimed at upholding the rule of law and clearing Gandhi Maidan of the “illegal dharna.” It reiterated that Gandhi Maidan is not a designated protest site and any such activity there remains unlawful. The administration warned of strict legal action against future violations.
