Patna: Patna AIIMS Director Dr. Gopal Krishna Pal has been removed from his position with immediate effect following allegations of nepotism. Dr. Saurabh Varshney, Executive Director of Deoghar AIIMS, has been appointed as the interim director for three months. The decision was announced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Dr. Pal faced accusations of using his position to benefit his son and daughter. Allegedly, while serving as the acting director of AIIMS Gorakhpur, he facilitated the enrolment of his son, Dr. Oro Prakash Pal, into a postgraduate program by declaring him under the non-creamy layer category.
After receiving a formal complaint on 4 September 2024, the Ministry launched an investigation, which concluded on 10 October. The investigation found Dr. Pal guilty of misusing his authority, leading to the Ministry’s decision to remove him from his post.
