Patna: Flight delays at Patna Airport are expected to reduce significantly as the construction of a new parallel taxi track nears completion. The upgrade is aimed at improving the airport’s operational efficiency, allowing more aircraft to land and take off each hour.
Currently, the airport handles around 12 flight movements per hour. With the new infrastructure in place, officials estimate this number will increase to 20, enhancing capacity and reducing wait times for passengers.
At present, it takes around five minutes for an aircraft to take off or land. However, the introduction of the taxi track is expected to cut this down to just three minutes. The faster turnaround will enable smoother scheduling and minimise congestion on the runway.
Under the existing system, aircraft landing at Patna Airport must be manoeuvred back along the runway to reach the takeoff position — a process that consumes both time and space. The parallel taxi track will allow planes to exit the runway directly after landing, clearing the way for subsequent takeoffs without delay.
