Patna and Pataliputra Junctions to Feature Smart Facilities with Modern Multiplex, Hotel, Mall, and More
Patna: Patna Junction and Pataliputra Junction are set to undergo significant transformations with plans to construct modern multiplexes by demolishing the old buildings. Inspired by the Rani Kamlapati station in Bhopal, the new facilities will offer a range of world-class amenities, including a four-star hotel, four restaurants, smart parking, and a gym, all under one roof.
The railway operations at both junctions will take place underground, allowing for a seamless integration of various facilities above. This innovative design will feature a shopping mall, cine multiplex, cafeteria, and more, ensuring that passengers have access to numerous conveniences while they travel. Elevators and escalators will connect the shopping mall directly to the platforms, allowing easy access for passengers to descend to the trains.
Additionally, railway employees and officers will have dedicated rooms in the underground section of the multiplex. To enhance the overall experience, a roof will be constructed from platform one to platform ten at Patna Junction, with escalators and lifts installed on each platform for passenger convenience.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being prepared at a cost of approximately ₹2.29 crore. An agency has been selected for this task, and surveys at both junctions have been ongoing for the past three months. The survey work is expected to conclude by December, after which the DPR will be submitted to the Railway Board for approval. Following board approval, a construction agency will be appointed, with the entire process anticipated to be completed within six months.
The existing parking systems at Patna and Pataliputra Junctions have been inadequate, often leading to congestion. The new smart parking facility will require users to present online or offline tickets at the entrance. This system will allow for parking capacity for approximately 1,000 vehicles, with advanced facial recognition technology and around 50 CCTV cameras for enhanced security.
Passengers will enjoy unrestricted access to the shopping mall without needing to show train tickets. However, to access the platforms from the mall, passengers will still need to present their tickets. The new building will feature an integrated security system for passenger safety, with train status displays available in multiple locations, including the mall and restaurants.
Key amenities will include:
– A four-star hotel for passenger accommodation.
– ATMs from various banks.
– Clean platforms with food stalls relocated away from train areas.
– Water purifiers replacing traditional taps.
– Reservation and general ticket counters located on the first floor.
– A high-tech children’s zone for play.
– A milk parlor offering 100 varieties of ice cream.
– A VIP salon facility.
East Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Saraswati Chandra, emphasized that these remodeling efforts at Patliputra and Patna Junctions aim to create high-tech buildings under the Amrit Bharat Yojana. The ongoing surveys are a crucial step towards achieving this vision, ensuring a modern and efficient travel experience for all passengers.
