Patna: Cricket fans across Patna stayed up late on Tuesday to watch Bihar’s teenage batting sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, in action against England. The 15-year-old left-hander from Tajpur in Samastipur gave supporters an exciting start with two towering sixes before being dismissed for 13 runs off five balls at a strike rate of 260.
The young batter, who has already represented India and featured in domestic cricket as well as the IPL, drew significant attention from cricket followers across the state. Although his stay at the crease was brief, his attacking approach generated enthusiasm among fans watching the late-night contest.
India Opts to Bowl First
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first, delaying the wait for supporters eager to watch Suryavanshi bat. When India began its chase, the teenager continued his aggressive approach from the outset.
After missing the fifth ball of the innings, Suryavanshi opened his account by hitting a six off the final delivery of Jofra Archer’s opening over. He followed it with another maximum in the next over against Josh Tongue before Archer dismissed him. The ball took the edge of his gloves and was caught by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.
In his international debut against England on July 4, Suryavanshi had scored 14 runs from 10 deliveries, including two boundaries.
Contributes in the Field
Suryavanshi also made an impact while fielding. During England’s innings, he completed a catch in the 11.5th over off the bowling of Harshit Rana to dismiss Jacob Bethell. The wicket helped India maintain pressure, with Rana claiming another dismissal on the following delivery.
Fans Back Bihar’s Young Star
The hashtag #VaibhavSuryavanshi trended across social media during the match, with fans sharing videos of his sixes and praising his fearless batting. While the youngster could not convert his start into a bigger innings, supporters expressed optimism about his performances in the remaining matches of the series.
