Patna : The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is set to expand Patna’s city bus network with 10 new routes, bringing areas such as Masaurhi, Bakhtiyarpur, Jehanabad and Dhanarua into a wider direct bus connection with the state capital.
The new services will operate from the GPO-based Multi-Modal Hub. The transport corporation has started a survey to assess passenger demand and determine the feasibility of operating buses on the proposed routes.
16 Electric Buses Planned
The expansion will initially include 16 electric buses across the 10 new routes. The move is aimed at improving public transport connectivity between Patna and surrounding areas.
At present, more than 200 city buses operate on 14 routes, carrying over 40,000 passengers every day.
The BSRTC’s CNG and electric buses are equipped with facilities such as Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras and panic buttons, adding safety and convenience for passengers.
Survey To Assess Passenger Demand
Before finalising the routes, officials are assessing the number of people travelling daily, peak passenger demand and the points where passengers begin and end their journeys.
The survey will help the corporation identify routes with sufficient demand and determine suitable bus services and schedules.
Officials are also examining the physical condition of the proposed roads. Road width, turns, overbridge height and the availability of space for buses to turn are among the factors being assessed.
Fares To Be Compared
The corporation will also compare the proposed bus fares with existing auto-rickshaw, taxi and train fares on the respective routes before finalising the pricing structure.
The estimated fares mentioned for some destinations are:
| Destination | Estimated Fare |
| Bihta | Rs 35–45 |
| Masaurhi | Rs 30–40 |
| Paliganj | Rs 50–65 |
| Ara | Rs 60–80 |
| Barh | Rs 65–85 |
| Buxar | Rs 130–160 |
The fares are indicative and may be finalised after the survey and route assessment.
More Areas To Get Direct Patna Links
The proposed expansion will extend Patna’s city bus reach beyond the existing network, providing more direct public transport options for people travelling between the capital and surrounding towns.
Masaurhi, Bakhtiyarpur, Jehanabad and Dhanarua are among the areas expected to gain improved connectivity with Patna once the new routes are introduced.
The final routes, bus frequency and operating schedules will be decided after the ongoing passenger-demand and road feasibility survey is completed.
