Patna: A heartbreaking case has come to light in Patna where a female constable, Kanak Priya, was killed by her husband, who is also a constable. The truth was revealed by their three-year-old son, who told the police, “Papa hit Mummy.” This small child’s words exposed the real story behind what the father had claimed was a suicide.
The husband, Prabhat Kumar, had told the police that Kanak hanged herself after a fight. But during questioning, he later admitted that he had beaten her badly after an argument. The couple had been fighting over Prabhat’s brother and his family living in their home, which Kanak did not want. She had taken a Rs 25 lakh loan last year to build the house and felt that only her small family should live there.
Police say Prabhat hit Kanak with the wooden end of a broom. Blood came from her nose and ears, and she died on the spot. In panic, Prabhat tried to mislead police by claiming she had died by suicide. However, his son’s statement and the post-mortem report proved otherwise.
Kanak’s funeral was held late Saturday night, where her little son lit the pyre. Police are now checking phone records and further details.
