Patna: A young man was shot dead in broad daylight in Patna on Monday, in what police believe was a dispute over land. The victim, identified as Aditya Kumar, was attacked while standing near his home in Sadavah village under the Dulhinbazar police station limits.
According to officials, three men arrived on a motorcycle and shot Kumar in the head before fleeing the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle nearby. The 24-year-old was being rushed to Patna by his family but died on the way.
Kumar’s father, Vijay Singh, has accused a local resident, Nitish Kumar, and his associates of carrying out the attack. He claimed the murder was the result of a long-standing dispute over 10 kattha of land. “Nitish and his men came to our house in the morning, argued about the land, and shot my son in the head,” Singh told police.
A forensic team and senior officers, including Patna West City Superintendent of Police Bhanu Pratap Singh, reached the scene shortly after the shooting. Police have since recovered the motorcycle used in the attack and said the suspects have been identified. Raids are ongoing to apprehend those involved.
“The primary motive appears to be a land dispute,” said SP Singh. “We are verifying all angles and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.”
