Bengaluru/Patna: A senior dermatologist from Patna has been honoured with two national awards at DERMACON 2026, one of the country’s most prestigious medical conferences, held in Bengaluru.
Dr Vikas Shankar, an assistant professor in the department of dermatology at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), received the IADVL National Derma Seva Award and the IADVL National President’s Appreciation Award at the event.

DERMACON 2026, held from January 29 to February 1, was the 54th national conference of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL). The conference was organised under the theme “Empowering Skin Science: Implications, Ingenuity & Inclusivity” and brought together dermatology experts from across India and abroad.
Dr Shankar, who also serves as the national joint secretary of the IADVL, was recognised for his contributions to dermatological service, professional leadership and organisational work at the national level.
Reacting to the honours, Dr Shankar said the awards reflected the collective support he had received throughout his career. “These honours truly belong to everyone who has guided, supported and believed in me throughout this journey. Your constant encouragement, trust and blessings have been a silent strength behind every step,” he said. He added that the recognition had further motivated him “to continue serving with honesty, compassion and dedication”.

The dual recognition at a national forum is being seen as a significant achievement not only for Dr Shankar personally, but also for the medical community in Bihar, highlighting growing national visibility for healthcare professionals from the state.
