Patna: A 20-year-old man was shot dead late on Thursday night in Kothiya Village under the jurisdiction of Didarganj Police Station, in what police suspect may have stemmed from an earlier dispute among friends over a cricket match.
The victim, identified as Harsh Kumar, was shot near a temple located around 150 metres from his home.
Family members and villagers rushed him to Nalanda Medical College Hospital, but he died on the way to hospital.
Friends Allegedly Called Him Outside
According to the victim’s father, Raju Kumar, Harsh had been having dinner at home when several friends from neighbouring Mohammadpur village called him on his mobile phone.
Soon after stepping outside, he was allegedly shot in the chest.
The family accused four to five youths of carrying out the attack.
Villagers attempted to chase the assailants, but the accused managed to flee the scene.
Previous Cricket Dispute Under Investigation
Police said preliminary investigation suggested the murder may be linked to a previous dispute related to a cricket game between Harsh and his friends.
Family members confirmed that tensions had arisen recently following an argument during a cricket match.
Harsh was a student, while his father works as a farmer, according to relatives.
Police And FSL Team Collect Evidence
Teams from the police and the Forensic Science Laboratory visited the crime scene and collected evidence.
Villagers alleged that police response was delayed despite being informed about the incident promptly.
They claimed the attackers might have been apprehended had officers arrived sooner.
Sunil Kumar, station house officer of Didarganj police station, confirmed that raids were under way to arrest those involved.
He said Harsh had been shot near the village temple by individuals known to him.
