Patna: A District Level Implementation Committee (DLIC) meeting for the prevention and control of air pollution was chaired by District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh at the Collectorate. The DM called for active participation from all stakeholders to control the ambient air pollution in Patna city, emphasizing a scientific and mission-driven approach to environmental protection.
Dr. Singh reviewed the progress of various departments, including transport, traffic, municipal bodies, road construction, mining, agriculture, and pollution control. He stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination and compliance with statutory provisions to ensure continuous improvement in air quality.
The Bihar State Pollution Control Board reported ongoing efforts to improve particulate matter levels, including campaigns by the Patna Municipal Corporation, Transport, and Forest Departments. Measures such as mist cannon machines, water sprinkling, and mist guns are being utilized for pollution control.
The District Transport Officer highlighted regular inspections of vehicles, with significant penalties imposed for non-compliance with Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Dr. Singh directed an intensive campaign to check PUC certificates and surprise inspections of petrol pumps. Awareness campaigns in schools were also instructed to promote environmental sensitivity.
Construction agencies were directed to follow guidelines strictly, with preventive and remedial actions to control dust and particulate matter. The DM instructed the General Manager, District Industries Center, to ensure compliance with pollution control provisions and encourage the use of clean fuel in industries.
Dr. Singh highlighted the need for short-term and long-term pollution control measures, urging all stakeholders to show commitment and sensitivity towards environmental protection.
