Patna District Magistrate Extends Closure of Schools for Lower Classes Due to Severe Cold Weather

Patna: In response to the harsh winter conditions, Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh announced an extension of the closure of academic activities for schools up to class 8 until January 23. For higher classes (9 and above), academic activities will take place between 9 am and 3:30 pm.

This decision comes despite a letter from the education department’s additional chief secretary, K K Pathak, on Saturday, questioning the prolonged suspension of academic activities in schools. District Magistrate Singh, in his Sunday order, emphasized that the health and safety of children remain a priority due to the persisting cold weather and low temperatures in the district.

On Sunday, the maximum or daytime temperature did not exceed 20 degrees Celsius anywhere in the state, with most places shrouded in a blanket of fog, intensifying the cold. The cold weather is expected to persist as the Patna Meteorological Centre issued a yellow warning for cold day conditions and dense fog cover at several places in the state until January 25.
