Patna Commissioner Prioritizes Traffic Management, Calls for Coordinated Efforts to Ease Congestion

Patna: Patna Divisional Commissioner Mayank Warwade has declared well-organized traffic management in Patna city a top government priority. He urged all involved parties to be proactive and dedicated to improving the city’s transportation system. Warwade made these remarks at a meeting held in his office with officials and representatives from auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw unions. The meeting focused on solutions to traffic congestion and ensuring smooth transportation for Patna residents.

Warwade emphasized that the primary goal is to make Patna a city with seamless mobility. He stressed that efficient traffic management is crucial for public welfare, impacting daily life and work. He reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy against traffic disruptions, encroachments, and traffic rule violations.

He instructed all relevant authorities, including the Urban Development Department, Traffic Police, Transport Department, NHAI, Forest Department, Road Construction, Administration, Law and Order officials, and others, to coordinate their efforts and enforce regulations. He also directed them to develop and implement both short-term and long-term action plans.

The commissioner outlined several key areas of focus for traffic improvement. These include implementing measures for smooth traffic flow, conducting regular drives to remove encroachments, taking strict action against illegal parking and speeding, and implementing notice-based actions to address public nuisances.

He also emphasised the importance of public awareness campaigns and vigilant enforcement. Discussions included the need for adjustments like restricting unnecessary road cuts and building zebra crossings.

Warwade highlighted the importance of advanced traffic management for a major city like Patna, which serves as a gateway for eastern and northeastern India. He stated that a well-organized transport system will improve road safety, boost economic growth, and enhance the overall quality of life. He acknowledged the rapid increase in vehicles and the resulting traffic congestion, stressing the need for effective management to reduce accidents and maintain smooth mobility.

He also emphasized the importance of installing proper signage throughout the city. The Patna Smart City Limited has installed over 3,300 CCTV cameras at 415 locations, including surveillance, red light violation detection, automatic number plate recognition, speed violation detection, and vehicle detection and classification cameras. Public announcements are also regularly made at 69 locations.

The meeting included senior officials such as the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, the Additional District Magistrate (Law & Order), the Additional Municipal Commissioner, the District Transport Officer, and representatives from auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw unions.
