Patna: A meeting was convened at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh to discuss traffic management, urban amenities, city beautification, and road safety in Patna. Detailed deliberations were held on short-term and long-term action plans for the comprehensive development of the city. Officials were directed to formulate public-interest schemes aligned with local needs, emphasizing that the availability of civic amenities and the beautification of the city remain top priorities for the administration.
The District Magistrate highlighted the progress made in Patna’s urban infrastructure, including the construction of roads, bridges, and flyovers, alongside the fast-paced development of the metro project. To streamline urban management, the government has approved a dedicated organizational structure, including 42 new posts under the General Administration Department, 153 under the Home Department, and 5 posts under the Urban Development and Housing Department. An integrated urban management unit under the District Magistrate will oversee these developments. Additionally, the District Magistrate instructed the Additional District Magistrate (Urban System) to issue a monthly encroachment removal campaign calendar and launch a WhatsApp number for public suggestions, grievances, and feedback.
The meeting stressed the importance of maintaining encroachment-free roads, sidewalks, and service lanes to alleviate traffic congestion. Officials were urged to implement measures like U-turns, one-way routes, traffic diversions, and compliance with traffic rules to ensure smooth vehicular movement. The administration is also prioritizing the development of green areas for city beautification and strengthening CCTV-based surveillance through Patna Smart City Limited. This includes the installation of over 3300 CCTV cameras, traffic violation detection systems, public address systems, and other technological solutions under the Intelligent Traffic Management System.
The District Magistrate emphasized the need for effective monitoring of the Integrated Traffic Management System and better coordination among stakeholders to address increasing vehicular pressure in high-traffic areas such as Nehru Path, Boring Road, Kankarbagh, and Atal Path. A three-member subcommittee comprising the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Sub-Divisional Officer, and Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) was tasked with ensuring smooth traffic flow and resolving civic issues in collaboration with municipal authorities.
Key officials present at the meeting included Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Special Officer Anubhajan, Additional District Magistrates (Law and City Order), District Transport Officer, and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic). They reiterated their commitment to improving the urban system, civic amenities, and public safety while fostering a sensitive and efficient administration in Patna.
