Patna: Patna is set to enhance its compressed natural gas (CNG) supply infrastructure with the approval of a second mother CNG station in Gardanibagh. The district magistrate (DM) has granted permission for the project, which will serve more than 12 blocks, including the capital city. Following this approval, the gas company has accelerated work on the station, aiming to make it operational within two months.
Once completed, the Gardanibagh mother station will supply gas via pipelines and tankers to several blocks, including Bakhtiyarpur, Barh, Fatuha, Dhanarua, Gaurichak, and Patna City. Construction is currently in its final stages, with Gail India having already installed two dispensers.
Increased Capacity to Meet Rising Demand
The new facility will have the capacity to refuel over 4,000 CNG vehicles daily—double the capacity of a standard station, which typically serves 2,000 vehicles. This expansion comes amid rising demand, with Patna currently consuming approximately 100,000 kilograms of CNG per day. With the number of CNG vehicles in the city surpassing 30,000 and continuing to grow, meeting future demand could pose a challenge.
In addition to the Gardanibagh station, Patna’s third mother station, located at Transport Nagar, is expected to become operational by December.
Supply to 15 Offline Stations
The Gardanibagh mother station will ensure a steady supply of CNG from the city to block levels. It will supply gas to 15 offline stations across the region, fuelling more than 20,000 vehicles daily. This expansion aims to support the growing number of CNG vehicles and ensure uninterrupted gas availability across Patna and surrounding areas.
