Patna: Patna is set to see significant traffic disruptions on Monday as the city prepares for a high-profile swearing-in ceremony at Gandhi Maidan. The Patna district administration has announced a series of road closures and diversions, affecting both heavy and light vehicles, in a bid to ensure security and smooth crowd management.

Entry to Gandhi Maidan will be completely restricted for the public and commercial vehicles between 8am and 3pm. Key roads affected include sections of Fraser Road north of Bhattacharya Square, SP Verma Road, Bakarganj Mor, Ramgulam Chowk, Ashoka Rajpath, and Krishna Ghat towards West Ganga Path. Vehicles approaching from Dakbungalow Square will be redirected past Bhattacharya Mor via New Dakbungalow and will not be permitted to proceed towards Gandhi Maidan.

A dedicated safe route from JP Golambar to Children’s Park will be reserved for emergencies only, while rickshaws, tempos, and small vehicles from Bailey Road will be diverted from Income Tax Golambar to Patel Path. All roads leading to Gandhi Maidan from Kotwali T to Police Line Tiraha on Buddha Marg will remain closed.

Parking and alternative arrangements

Authorities have arranged parking for attendees at multiple locations, including under the double-decker bridge on Ashoka Rajpath, near Kargil Chowk, and in the multi-level parking lot at Maurya Lok, which can accommodate 96 vehicles. The service lane of Veer Chand Patel Path has space for around 200 vehicles, and Bans Ghat Road can hold 100. Additional parking is available at Miller High School, Patna College, and Science College.

Medical vigilance across the city has been stepped up. All government hospitals—including NMCH, PMCH, and IGIMS—are on high alert, while Tara Hospital and Rupan Hospital have deployed extra doctors and ambulances.

A new access route to Gandhi Maidan has also been mapped out. Visitors entering via Gate No. 5 can proceed through Children’s Park to the Commissioner’s Office before exiting towards Ganga Path. Separate arrangements have been made for attendees heading to Bank Road, who will use Gate No. 4 and the route in front of the SBI.

Authorities have urged travellers, particularly those catching flights, to use alternate routes including Jandev Path, Bailey Road, and Patel Path to avoid delays. Private vehicle traffic will continue as normal along SP Verma Road via Exhibition Road from Ramgulam Chowk.

Gate entry details

The chief guests, including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Governor, and Chief Ministers of other states, will enter through Gate No. 1. Other VIPs are expected via Gate No. 4. Members of the public will be able to access Gandhi Maidan through Gates 5–10, while media personnel will enter via Gate No. 11.

For updates or assistance, the district control room can be reached at 0612-2219810/2219234, or by dialing 112.
