Patna: Senior officials in Bihar’s road construction department have raised concerns over delays in a key urban infrastructure project in Patna, following an inspection by the department’s secretary.
Pankaj Kumar Pal, secretary of the road construction department, on Monday inspected the ongoing road development work along the boundary wall of the ministerial residential complex and on both sides of Bapu Tower in the Gardanibagh area of Patna. The total length of the road project is 1.34km.
During the site visit, Pal reviewed the progress with engineers and representatives of the executing agency and expressed dissatisfaction over slow work at several locations. Officials said he issued instructions to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The secretary also inspected green-belt development work along the stretch from Chitkohra roundabout to the No 15 road overbridge (ROB), as well as between Road No 16 and Road No 14. Authorities said the project includes the construction of a retaining wall with bituminous surfacing over a length of about 1.55km, along with the development of footpaths on both sides of the road where required.

Additional inspections were carried out on the south side of the Chitkohra roundabout, where green-belt development is under way. Pal again reprimanded engineers and contractors for delays and directed them to accelerate construction.
Officials said he also instructed the removal of encroachments and other obstructions that were hampering progress. Engineers were asked to coordinate with the district administration and brief the district magistrate on the challenges being faced at the site.
The road construction department said the intervention was aimed at ensuring timely completion of the project, which is expected to improve traffic movement and urban infrastructure in the Gardanibagh area.
