Patna-Gaya-Dobhi Highway Nears Completion, Set to Transform Bihar’s Connectivity

Patna : The long-awaited Patna-Gaya-Dobhi four-lane highway is now 99% complete, significantly improving road connectivity between the state capital and key districts such as Jehanabad and Gaya. Once fully operational, the highway will cut travel time between Patna and Gaya to just one and a half hours, offering a smoother and more efficient journey for commuters.
The highway, part of National Highway 22 (NH-22), stretches from Nathupur in Patna to Dobhi in Gaya, passing through Jehanabad. The project, one of Bihar’s most ambitious infrastructure developments, has been constructed at a cost of Rs1,910.83 crore and spans 127.2 km. So far, 126.8 km of the road has been completed, accounting for 99.67% of the total project length.
Enhanced Connectivity and Economic Impact
The new highway is expected to improve connectivity not only within Bihar but also with neighbouring Jharkhand, giving a boost to regional trade and travel. Officials believe the improved road infrastructure will enhance tourism in the area, particularly in Gaya, which is a major pilgrimage site for Buddhist and Hindu devotees.
Final Construction Work Underway
The project, built in three phases, has nearly reached completion, with only minor work remaining. The first phase covers 39 km, the second extends from the 39th km to the 83rd km, and the third runs from the 83rd km to the 127th km.
Currently, the final construction on three railway overbridges (ROBs) is underway. Once the remaining two lanes on these bridges are completed, the highway will be fully operational. The project also includes five ROBs, 20 underpasses, four flyovers, and eight bypasses to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
