Patna: Heavy rain lashed Bihar on Friday, with downpours sweeping across 12 districts including Patna, where hours of rainfall left several neighbourhoods waterlogged and the city shrouded in darkness by the afternoon.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for 32 districts, warning of rain with strong winds and lightning. Light to moderate showers are forecast over the next two to four days, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
In Supaul, riverbank erosion in Lalganj village led to the collapse of a house into the Kosi river, highlighting the risks of sustained downpours. Dense fog was also reported in Gopalganj and Bettiah in the morning.
Authorities cautioned that rising river levels could aggravate flooding in low-lying areas. In Patna, conditions are expected to remain cloudy with intermittent rain through the weekend. The maximum temperature is likely to stay below 30°C, while minimum temperatures are forecast between 24°C and 25°C.
Meteorologists noted that the rainfall and cool winds will bring temporary relief from heat and humidity, even as the risk of waterlogging persists.
