Patna : Patna Junction has been included in the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Yojana and is set to be redeveloped along the lines of Bhopal’s Rani Kamlapati station, officials have confirmed. The plan envisions the construction of a multiplex building in place of the current structure, with facilities including a four-star hotel, a shopping complex, restaurants, smart parking and an integrated security system.
The detailed project report (DPR) for the station is expected to be handed over to East Central Railway by June, after which it will be sent to the Railway Board for final approval. Once cleared, demolition of the existing building and construction of the new complex is expected to take approximately 24 months.
Similar redevelopment proposals are also being prepared for Danapur and Patliputra stations. Surveys are currently underway at both sites.
The proposed redevelopment of Patna Junction will include several new features:
- An integrated security system for the safety of passengers and railway property
- Real-time train status displays at key locations, including shopping areas
- A four-star hotel facility for overnight passengers
- Multiple ATMs from various banks
- Relocation of food and drink stalls from platforms to keep them clean
- Smart parking facilities with a capacity of 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles, including two-wheelers and cars
Patna Junction, Danapur and Patliputra stations all experience heavy footfall, with the existing parking arrangements often leading to congestion. The upgraded parking facilities are expected to significantly ease traffic in and around the stations.
