Patna: A Khatal (dairy) operator was shot dead in broad daylight in Jaganpura under Ramakrishna Nagar police station area on Monday, in yet another brazen challenge to law enforcement in the Bihar capital. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Chandrakant Prasad, was gunned down around 10am by three assailants on a motorcycle.
According to police sources, Chandrakant was shot four times at close range, leaving him fatally wounded at the scene. Eyewitnesses report that the attackers arrived swiftly and fled before locals could react.
The incident has triggered panic in the area and renewed public concerns about law and order in Patna. Early reports suggest that a family dispute may have been involved, with Chandrakant’s son-in-law and a relative among those named as suspects.
Police teams have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas. “We are probing all angles, including personal enmity and family disputes,” said a senior officer at Ramakrishna Nagar police station.
Chandrakant operated a local dairy and was known in the area. His sudden death has shocked the community, with residents demanding immediate arrests and stronger police presence in the neighbourhood.
As of now, no arrests have been made. The body has been sent for postmortem, and police say further action will follow once preliminary findings are available.
