Patna – A live-in couple was shot dead in Gausganj village of Khidimod police station area in Patna on Wednesday night. Their bodies were discovered on Thursday morning in a water-filled pit on the roadside in another village, Madaripur Baheri.

The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Yadav (46) and Sharda Devi (42). Police recovered the tip of the cartridge, the shell, and blood stains from the scene, creating an atmosphere of panic in the area.

Paliganj DSP Pritam Kumar stated that the bodies have been sent to AIIMS, Patna for post-mortem. As of late evening, neither of their families had filed a written complaint. The investigation is ongoing, and the motive for the murder remains unclear.

Rajendra, who had been married twice, lost both wives. Sharda was previously married to Prasidh Yadav from Maheshpur village but left her husband five years ago. Since then, Rajendra and Sharda had been living together as a couple. There were rumors of a temple marriage, but Sharda had not legally divorced her husband. Rajendra had also transferred one bigha of his land in Sharda’s name.

The incident site is a short distance from Rajendra’s house, and it is believed that the couple was returning home late at night when they were murdered.

A villager discovered the bodies during a morning walk outside Madaripur village, noticing bloodstains and cartridges on the road. He promptly informed the police.

According to villagers, Rajendra and Sharda each had a child from their previous marriages, and they had not had any children together in the five years they lived together. Both families are under police suspicion, and investigators are looking into the matter, including the issue of the land transferred to Sharda.
