Bihar: In a push to enhance the efficiency and transparency of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, the Bihar government has directed each department to appoint a dedicated nodal officer and establish a toll-free helpline to assist beneficiaries.
At a review meeting chaired by Mukesh Kumar Lal, Special Secretary of the Finance Department, officials discussed ways to streamline DBT operations across departments. Attended by IT managers, internal financial advisors and nodal officers, the meeting took place at the Old Secretariat and focused on improving coordination and timely communication with beneficiaries.
Departments have been instructed to share the contact details of their newly appointed nodal officers with the Finance Department without delay. These officers will be responsible for managing DBT-related data and ensuring smoother inter-departmental coordination.
The state also plans to launch a toll-free number through which beneficiaries can obtain real-time updates on DBT schemes. Additional communication will be provided via WhatsApp and SMS to maximise reach and minimise delays.
To support this outreach, content for messaging will be created by the Finance Department in collaboration with agencies selected by the Information and Public Relations Department.
The initiative underscores the Bihar government’s commitment to digital governance and the efficient delivery of welfare schemes.
