Patna: “World Environment Day” was observed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) at all sites PC-01, PC-02, PC-03, PC-04 and PE-01 of Patna Metro Rail Project. Various environmental awareness programs were organized to show commitment towards the environmental awareness.
The Environment team of DMRC sensitized all employees and workers about land restoration, desertification, and drought prevention under the slogan “Our Land Our Future” the theme of “World Environment Day” of 2024.
It is to be noted that according to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), up to 40 percent of the Earth’s land has been degraded, which is directly impacting half of the world’s population and reducing the global gross domestic product (US$44 trillion). Dollar) is at risk. The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 percent since 2000 – if urgent action is not taken, more than three-quarters of the world’s population could be affected by drought by 2050.
On this occasion, pledge for environmental protection was taken by all the workers and employees to protect the environment. Training and awareness programs on environment were conducted at all sites to increase the awareness level among workers. Apart from poster making competition, quiz competition, housekeeping drive, road marching, about one thousand trees and saplings were distributed among the local people and tree plantation programs were organized under which thousands of saplings were planted. Trees and saplings were also distributed to pedestrians passing by and local residents so that they could also plant trees in their homes.
