Patna : The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a framework for engaging an agency to manage door-to-door garbage collection and sanitation services for four years, with the proposal among 84 agenda items approved by its Empowered Standing Committee on Saturday.

According to the report, the agency-based arrangement is expected to save the civic body more than Rs 24 crore annually while strengthening waste management across the city.

The committee also approved the deployment of 10 additional sanitation workers in every ward for special cleaning during Diwali and Chhath. Other decisions covered additional heavy vehicles, renovation of a pond near Panch Shiv Temple, and infrastructure projects involving drains, lanes and water supply.

Four-Year Agency Contract Planned For Waste Collection

The committee discussed the framework for selecting an agency to handle door-to-door garbage collection and sanitation services over a four-year period.

The proposed arrangement aims to improve the organisation of waste collection and strengthen the city’s waste management system. The corporation expects the agency-based model to generate annual savings of more than Rs 24 crore.

The approval concerns the framework for engaging an agency. The selection of a service provider and subsequent implementation will require further administrative steps.

10 Extra Sanitation Workers In Every Ward For Diwali And Chhath

Patna Mayor Sita Sahu said the committee had approved 10 additional sanitation workers per ward for special cleaning operations during the Diwali and Chhath festivals.

The additional workforce is intended to support sanitation teams as waste volumes rise during the festive period. The move is expected to help maintain cleanliness in residential areas and public spaces.

The committee also approved the provision of additional heavy and large vehicles wherever required to support sanitation and waste management operations.

Old Municipal Vehicles May Be Replaced

The corporation is considering replacing its ageing vehicles with new ones. According to the report, a proposal for purchasing replacement vehicles will be placed before the upcoming municipal board meeting.

The decision will be subject to the corporation’s further approval process.

The committee also approved the renovation of the pond near Panch Shiv Temple. In addition, several projects related to drains, lanes and water supply in different wards received approval.

These works form part of the civic body’s broader efforts to address local infrastructure and sanitation requirements.

PMC Inspects 103 Chhath Ghats Across Patna

Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena said inspections had begun at 103 Chhath ghats across the corporation’s different zones to assess preparations for the festival.

The inspections are intended to help the civic body identify the facilities and arrangements required for devotees observing Chhath. Officials also discussed ways to beautify artificial ponds within the municipal area.

The condition of the ghats and artificial water bodies will be assessed as part of the preparations, with the corporation reviewing requirements for festival-related arrangements.

Preparations For Prakash Parv At Patna Sahib

The committee also discussed arrangements for the upcoming Prakash Parv at Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib.

The discussions focused on maintaining cleanliness in streets and neighbourhoods around the religious site and ensuring adequate sanitation during the event.

With preparations underway for Chhath and Prakash Parv, the corporation is reviewing immediate cleaning requirements alongside longer-term plans for waste collection, vehicle replacement and local infrastructure improvements.

The implementation of the approved measures will depend on subsequent administrative steps and coordination among the corporation’s departments.
