Patna: Property owners in Patna are lining up at municipal counters to take advantage of a 5% rebate on property tax payments available until June 30. In response to the rising footfall, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended working hours and ordered counters to remain open on Sundays and public holidays.
The PMC’s initiative, aimed at encouraging timely payment, offers a tiered structure:
- A 5% rebate for payments made between April and June.
- No rebate or penalty from July to September.
- A 1.5% penalty on payments made from October to March.
Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar has instructed that all tax counters operate from 9am to 9pm in two shifts to manage the demand. “The response has been encouraging,” an official said, “and this move will help improve civic revenue while easing pressure on citizens.”
In addition to physical counters, the PMC is offering online payment facilities via its official websites – pmc.bihar.gov.in and pmcptax.bihar.gov.in. Residents can also use a dedicated WhatsApp chatbot (924447449) for both payment and accessing their demand letters from home.
Municipal employees are also delivering demand letters to homes to ensure wider outreach. Authorities have urged citizens to pay their dues according to the official schedule to avoid penalties and help the corporation maintain essential civic services.
