Patna Municipal Corporation Unveils Rs2,830 Crore Budget, Focus on Water Supply and Infrastructure

Patna : The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a budget of Rs2,830 crore for the 2025-26 financial year, marking an increase of Rs776 crore from last year’s Rs2,054 crore. The budget, approved during a meeting of the Empowered Standing Committee on Wednesday, will now be presented to the Corporation Board for final approval. A surplus of Rs 605 crore is projected for the year.

Focus on Tackling Water Crisis and Infrastructure

In a bid to prevent a drinking water crisis during the summer, the Corporation plans to install three submersible pumps in each of the 75 municipal wards. Budget provisions have been made to implement various schemes aimed at addressing water scarcity in different localities and colonies.

Additionally, Rs150 crore has been allocated for infrastructure development. This amount, however, will be separate from the Rs1 crore allocated to each councillor annually for ward-level development projects. The councillors’ funds will be used exclusively for local initiatives, while the infrastructure budget will focus on broader projects.

Corporation Mart and Mall to Be Built in Three Locations

As part of the city’s development plan, Corporation Mart buildings will be constructed in three areas—Arya Kumar Road, Saidpur, and Khetan Market—at an estimated cost of Rs50 crore. These commercial spaces are expected to boost local trade and provide modern facilities to residents.

Drain and Lane Development Under Mukhyamantri Nali-Gali Yojana

The Corporation has also significantly increased funding for the Mukhyamantri Nali-Gali Yojana, aimed at improving drainage and lanes in urban wards. This year, Rs16 crore has been allocated, a fourfold increase from last year’s Rs4 crore.

New Projects Include Nagar Palika Bhawan and Ghobi Ghat

Rs28 crore has been earmarked for the construction of Nagar Palika Bhawan, while Rs5 crore will be spent on the development of Ghobi Ghat, a project included in this year’s budget.

Revenue Projections for 2025-26

The Corporation expects to generate Rs860 crore in revenue during the financial year, with Rs116 crore anticipated from holding tax collections.
