Patna Municipal Corporation’s Urgent Campaign to Replace Broken Manhole Covers
Patna: In a determined effort to address the issue of broken manhole covers plaguing the city, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched an intensive initiative. The civic body has crafted and prepared approximately 750 pre-cast manhole covers, strategically designed to replace or mend damaged covers across various wards.
The construction work, carried out with precision, is a daily undertaking that aims to enhance the quality of manhole covers and ensure their resilience to withstand environmental factors, particularly water exposure. Notably, these pre-cast manhole covers are strategically being placed in areas where covers are either broken or missing. This strategic approach not only maintains the cover’s quality but also facilitates proper water drainage, contributing to its durability.
A comprehensive breakdown of the pre-cast manhole covers, categorized by zones, is as follows:
- Pataliputra Zone: 165 covers
- Nutan Rajdhani Zone: 175 covers
- Kankarbagh Zone: 142 covers
- Bankipur Zone: 182 covers
- Patna City Zone: 22 covers
- Azimabad Zone: 39 covers
This sums up to a total of 725 pre-cast manhole covers already manufactured and ready for deployment.
In a meticulous evaluation of manhole conditions, engineers conducted thorough surveys by traversing the city’s wards. A comprehensive examination of all 75 wards was undertaken, assessing the conditions of the manholes. Notably, a dedicated team of engineers, dispatched by the PMC, conducted on-foot inspections to ensure a nuanced understanding of the situation. Based on their findings, the necessary steps will be taken to install manhole covers as per requirements in each ward.
With a sense of urgency, the PMC has set an ambitious target to complete the installation of manhole covers in all wards by December 30. This proactive approach underlines the corporation’s commitment to ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of the city’s infrastructure, exemplifying a dedication to civic welfare.
