Patna Police to File Case Against Six Prisoners After Viral Jail Party Video Sparks Outrage

Six inmates of Masaurhi sub-jail face criminal charges after a video showing a liquor and marijuana party inside the premises went viral, prompting official investigation and public concern.

Patna: Patna police are set to file a case against six inmates of the Masaurhi sub-jail following the circulation of a viral video that appears to show prisoners engaging in a party involving liquor and marijuana. The footage, which has sparked widespread concern over lax security inside Bihar’s prisons, has led to a formal request for a named FIR by the jail’s Deputy Superintendent to the local police station.

The six accused inmates have been identified as Deepak Kumar alias Bhogi, Mohd Imam, Vipin Kumar, Golu Kumar alias Golu Yadav, Ajit Kumar, and Botal Kumar alias Bablu Kumar. According to the jail administration, they have been charged with disrupting prison security and tarnishing the image of the correctional institution.

Beur Jail Superintendent Neeraj Kumar Jha visited the Masaurhi facility on Tuesday, June 3, to conduct an internal inquiry. The investigation report has since been submitted, and sources confirm that the six prisoners remain lodged within the jail.

Although the video strongly suggests consumption of illicit substances, jail authorities have refrained from publicly confirming whether alcohol or marijuana was actually consumed. Reports indicate that during the alleged party, the prisoners may have made video calls to individuals outside the jail to show them the scene in real time.

Disciplinary action against jail staff is also under consideration, pending further investigation. The episode has renewed calls for tighter surveillance and stricter enforcement of contraband regulations inside Bihar’s prison system.

Officials have not clarified how the items entered the jail or how mobile phones—typically prohibited—were accessible to the inmates.

This incident follows other recent controversies involving illegal activities in custodial settings across Bihar, raising questions about the effectiveness of prison oversight in the state.
