Patna: Patna’s General Post Office (GPO) and several other post offices across Bihar have begun a special sale of Gangotri Gangajal ahead of Mahashivratri to facilitate Shiva devotees. The holy water, available in 250 ml bottles at a fixed price of Rs 30, is being stocked in sufficient quantities to meet demand.
Chief Post Master Ranjay Kumar Singh said that in addition to post office sales, Gangajal will be made available near major temples in Patna, ensuring easy access for devotees. On Mahashivratri, Gangajal will be sold at locations including Panchmukhi Temple (Boring Road), Shiva Temple (Boring Road), Durga Temple (New Police Line), Surya Temple (Kacchi Talab, Gardanibagh), and Gauriyamath Temple (Mithapur).
SDRF Deployed for Devotee Safety on Ganga Ghats
With Mahashivratri falling on February 26, authorities in Patna have stepped up safety measures for devotees bathing in the Ganga. District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh has ordered the deployment of 14 motorboats for rescue and relief operations along the river.
Six teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will patrol key ghats with divers and other rescue resources. The patrolling stretch will cover Umanath and Alakhnath Ghat in Barh to Gaighat, Bhadra Ghat, Mahavir Ghat, Kangan Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Collectorate Ghat, Pahelwan Ghat, Kurji Balu Par Ghat, LCT Ghat, Digha Patipul Ghat, Nasriganj Ghat, Danapur Pipa Pul Ghat, and Haldi Chhapra Ghat in Maner. SDRF Team Commander Durganand Prasad of Gaighat, Patna City, has been appointed as the nodal officer, while the Circle Officers of Patna Sadar and Danapur zones have been directed to arrange accommodation, food, and fuel for SDRF personnel.
