Patna-Purnia Greenfield Expressway to Transform Bihar’s Connectivity at Rs 18,042 Crore

Patna: The Patna-Purnia Greenfield Six-Lane Expressway, a major infrastructure project in Bihar, will be constructed at a cost of Rs 18,042.14 crore and span 281.95 km. The expressway, part of the central government’s budget announcement, is expected to significantly enhance connectivity across the state.
Fast-tracked development and land acquisition plans
Since the project was announced by the Pm Narendra Modi government, construction work has been progressing rapidly. According to officials, land acquisition for the expressway is set to be finalised within the next six months. The expressway will pass through Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, and Purnia.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha confirmed that, following a request from the Bihar government, an additional spur will be constructed under this project to connect the district headquarters of Samastipur, Saharsa, and Madhepura.
Route and key features of the expressway
The expressway will commence from Mirnagar (Vaishali) on NH-22 and conclude at Chand Bhaddi (Purnia) on NH-27 (East-West Corridor). It will cover key districts such as Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, and Madhepura, with a land acquisition width of 10 meters.
Once completed, the expressway will drastically reduce travel time between the Seemanchal region and Patna, offering a major boost to transportation and economic activities in the region.
Additional Greenfield highway approved
In addition to the expressway, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of an 18.1 km long Greenfield four-lane highway from Konwa Ghat to Maker, along the western bank of the Gandak River.
The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 777.4 crore, will require land acquisition of 45 meters in width. This new highway aims to improve accessibility and ease movement in Saran district.
