Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has resolved more than 67,900 air pollution-related complaints through a technology-based monitoring system, as the city intensifies efforts to improve air quality despite ongoing infrastructure projects.
According to the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB), two independent surveyors have been appointed to inspect municipal wards daily, identify sources of air pollution and upload their findings to the Clean Air Dashboard, a digital platform designed to facilitate real-time monitoring and response.
Technology-Based Monitoring
The surveyors assess air quality across the city and record the causes of pollution, enabling civic authorities to identify pollution sources and initiate corrective action.
The dashboard automatically alerts the concerned officials after a complaint is registered. Once action is reported, the response is verified by experts using a digital validation tool. If the response is found to be inadequate, the complaint is reopened for further action.
Complaints related to agencies such as BUIDCO, the Road Construction Department, GAIL, Patna Metro and other line departments are forwarded to the respective authorities for resolution.
More Than 81% Of Complaints Resolved
According to official data, 83,112 complaints related to sanitation and construction activities have been registered on the Clean Air Dashboard so far.
Of these, 67,901 complaints have been resolved, representing a resolution rate of 81.7%.
Officials attributed the progress to continuous monitoring, coordinated action among departments and regular technical reviews under the National Clean Air Programme and the Air Pollution Action Group.

Focus On Sanitation And Construction Dust
The complaints received through the dashboard broadly fall into two categories.
The first relates to sanitation issues, including open dumping of waste, garbage burning, littering at collection points and failure to remove silt after drain cleaning within the prescribed time.
The second category concerns construction and demolition (C&D) waste management, including uncovered construction sites, improper storage of building materials and debris, and illegal dumping of C&D waste.
Cleanliness Drive Underway
PMC said it is continuing a city-wide cleanliness and dust control campaign to reduce particulate pollution.
As part of the initiative, private plots are also being deep cleaned to reduce pollution caused by accumulated dust, garbage and open waste.
Officials said the use of digital monitoring, regular field inspections and coordinated action has helped sustain pollution control efforts even as major road, metro, sewerage and other infrastructure projects continue across Patna.
