Patna: Patna experienced its hottest day of the season on Saturday, with the maximum temperature soaring to 43°C, up from 41.6°C the previous day. The heatwave affected 15 districts across Bihar, pushing the state’s highest recorded temperatures close to 45°C.
Dehri and Gaya registered the highest temperatures, both hitting 44.6°C. Severe heatwave conditions persisted in Gaya, while Motihari and Sheikhpura faced heatwave warnings. Several districts, including Aurangabad, Bhojpur, Chhapra, Nalanda, and Banka, also reported significant rises in temperature, ranging from 0.5°C to 1.8°C over the last 24 hours.
However, meteorologists forecast a shift in weather from Sunday, with thunderstorms and rain expected to bring relief. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in districts such as Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and both East and West Champaran. Winds of 50-60 km/h are likely in the eastern and central parts of the state.
Patna and surrounding districts including Nalanda, Jehanabad, Gaya, and Nawada are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and winds between 30-40 km/h. Additionally, isolated hailstorms are predicted in East Champaran, Supaul, Sitamarhi, and Madhubani.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation over East Bihar and adjoining sub-Himalayan West Bengal, along with another system over Assam, is influencing the weather. These systems are expected to bring normalised conditions and significant relief from the heat over the next four to five days, with temperatures forecast to drop by three to five degrees.
