Patna: All schools in Patna—government, private, and aided—have been instructed to begin academic activities only after 8am as temperatures in the capital continue to drop. The directive was issued on Monday by the District Education Officer (DEO) with the approval of the District Magistrate, citing concerns over students’ health amid the intensifying cold wave.
The order, which takes immediate effect, states that no school will be permitted to hold morning assemblies or start classes before 8am. The DEO said the revised timings prioritise the safety of children and may be reviewed if the cold conditions worsen.
Copies of the directive have been sent to headteachers of government schools and managers of private institutions, instructing them to strictly adhere to the new schedule from Tuesday. The order has also been circulated to the District Programme Officer, Block Education Officers and school sub-inspectors to ensure enforcement.
Officials said the decision follows reports that early morning classes were exposing children to harsh conditions, prompting the administration to step in. Further adjustments to school timings may be announced depending on weather forecasts.
