ADRI study reveals Smart City projects in Patna lack citizen participation and highlights innovations in data, robotics, and sustainable development.

Patna: Most Smart City projects in Patna fall short on citizen engagement, according to findings presented by Dr Deepak Kumar of the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI). Speaking during the institute’s Research Innovation Week, Kumar said none of the projects reached the highest levels of citizen empowerment as defined by the Arnstein Ladder of Participation.

ADRI researchers Anshul and Pawan Lal emphasised the need for accurate data collection and robust monitoring systems, citing the importance of GIS technology in real-time project tracking. Dr Ashmita Gupta, ADRI’s Member-Secretary, opened the event, while Gulshan Patel spoke on the Green Skills Development Programme and ADRI’s role in youth training.

Abhishek Prasad and Alam Mozahid detailed ADRI’s Social Impact Assessments on land acquisition, and Mausam Bahar showcased a Hexapod Spider Robot designed under Dr Mousumi Gupta’s guidance. Ashish Thakur called for the promotion of Kala Cotton as a sustainable alternative to BT Cotton. The event was attended by researchers and students both virtually and in person.
