Patna: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused widespread disruption across Patna on Friday evening, uprooting trees and electricity poles and triggering severe traffic congestion on several major roads and flyovers.
Authorities said roads around Gandhi Maidan, Kankarbagh, Nehru Path and Harding Road were among the worst affected as commuters remained stranded in long traffic queues for hours.
The Forest Department reportedly began road-clearing operations only after 5.30pm, further worsening congestion across the city.
Nehru Path And Airport Route Hit Hard
Traffic movement was severely affected on Nehru Path, especially near Rajvanshinagar and around the flyover close to Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park.
Vehicles heading towards the airport and Saguna Mor were diverted towards Raj Bhavan due to fallen trees blocking sections of the road.
Heavy traffic pressure was also reported on Jagdeo Path and the Ashiana-Digha road after vehicles were rerouted from the congested Raja Bazar flyover.
Officials said traffic congestion persisted for nearly two hours on the main Kankarbagh road, while jams were also reported on Nala Road and Thakur Bari Road in the Kadamkuan area.

Long Queues On Flyovers Across City
Several flyovers across Patna witnessed long lines of slow-moving vehicles after trees collapsed during the storm.
Traffic on the Raja Bazar flyover remained heavily congested from Sheikhpura to Rukanpura, while another queue stretched from Rukanpura to Gola Road intersection.
A fallen tree near a temple in Rukanpura also disrupted access to the railway overbridge in the area.
On Harding Road, movement was restricted to a single lane after a tree collapsed on one side of the flyover connecting GPO and R-Block.
The Chiraiyatand flyover connecting Patna Junction with Kankarbagh also remained gridlocked for a prolonged period.
Multiple Areas Affected
Traffic disruption was reported across several major stretches including Ashok Rajpath, Deshratna Marg, Boring Canal Road, Circular Road, Buddha Marg, Mithapur, Anisabad, Daroga Rai Path, Digha-Ashiana Road and Khagaul Road.
Officials said traffic remained severely affected between 5pm and 7pm as civic authorities attempted to clear roads blocked by uprooted trees and damaged electricity poles.

Trees also reportedly fell inside the premises of Patna High Court, though traffic movement in that area was not affected.
At Gardanibagh Hospital, a tree crashed onto a parked car. Authorities said no injuries were reported as nobody was inside the vehicle at the time.
