Patna: A significant overhaul of traffic flow in the GPO and Patna Junction areas is set to be implemented, with new routes and parking regulations aimed at easing congestion. The Traffic Superintendent has submitted proposals to the Patna Municipal Corporation, District Administration, and Road Construction Department, outlining the changes at the GPO Multi Modal Parking Hub, Buddha Smriti, and Tata Parking.

GPO Multi Modal Parking Hub Changes:

  • Auto-Rickshaws:
    • Autos originating from the GPO will now serve routes towards R Block, Phulwari, and Danapur, and will no longer proceed towards Patna Junction.
    • The first floor of the GPO Multi Modal Hub will be designated exclusively for auto-rickshaw parking.
    • Auto-rickshaws exiting the first floor via gates 1-6 will only be permitted to travel towards R Block.
    • Autos that need to reach Atal Path, Airport, Phulwari, or Danapur via R Block will be allowed to exit the first floor of the Hub.
  • City Buses:
    • City buses will be parked on the ground floor of the GPO Multi Modal Hub.
    • Buses entering via Gate 2 (New Market Road) and Gate 8 (Buddha Marg) will exit via Gate 5, following a clockwise route.
    • Upon exiting, buses will be directed right towards R Block only, with no buses allowed to proceed towards Patna Junction.
    • City buses will not travel from Goraiya Toli towards Patna Junction.
  • Private Vehicles:
    • Private vehicles will be parked on the second and third floors of the GPO Multi Modal Hub.
    • Private vehicles will be permitted to travel towards Patna Junction.
  • Pedestrian Access:
    • Gates 3, 4, and 7 will be reserved for pedestrian access.
    • An underpass is being constructed to facilitate pedestrian movement to Mahavir Mandir.
  • Gate Usage:
    • Gate 1, connected to the first-floor ramp, will be used for small vehicles and auto-rickshaws.
    • Gate 6 will be the exit for four-wheelers and auto-rickshaws descending from the first floor.
    • Gate 7 will serve as an emergency exit.
  • Gates 1-6 will have a dedicated lane for buses and vehicles.

Dakbungla and Surrounding Area Changes:

  • Auto-Rickshaws:
    • Auto-rickshaws will not be allowed to proceed towards Patna Junction from Dakbungla crossing.
    • Auto-rickshaws from Dakbungla will travel to the GPO Multi Modal Hub or Buddha Smriti Parking via Buddha Marg.
    • Reserved autos from Buddha Smriti parking lot will be allowed to go from Fazer Road via Dak Bungalow to Gandhi Maidan/Bailey Road etc. or from Goraiya Toli to Rajendra Nagar/Kankarbagh etc.
    • Ordinary three-wheelers will be allowed to go from Fazer Road via Dak Bungalow to Gandhi Maidan/Bailey Road.
  • City Buses:
    • City buses will travel from Goraiya Toli to the right Exhibition Road crossing and from Dakbungla to Patna Junction.
  • Tata Parking:
    • Auto-rickshaws traveling towards Goraiya Toli, Ramakrishna Nagar, Kankarbagh, and Rajendra Nagar will be permitted to depart from Tata Parking.

These changes are designed to streamline traffic flow and improve accessibility in the busy GPO and Patna Junction areas.
