Patna: Patna Traffic Police has introduced new guidelines regulating the movement of heavy vehicles on Old and New NH-139 in an effort to ease congestion in the city. The decision was taken after a meeting chaired by the chief secretary, and the updated traffic rules were confirmed by Traffic SP Aparajit Lohan on Monday.

Under the new regulations, trucks carrying sand and ballast are now banned from using Old NH-139, which runs from Naubatpur ROB towards AIIMS Golambar, Phulwari Sharif, and Anisabad. However, trucks with challans from the Patna urban area will be allowed entry onto Old NH-139 at Naubatpur, provided they present valid documentation. These trucks will then be diverted to Beldari Chak by taking a right turn from Naubatpur ROB.

To further regulate truck movement, heavy vehicles entering Patna’s urban areas will be required to halt at AIIMS Golambar during the day, where they must queue in a single lane.

On New NH-139, heavy vehicles will no longer be permitted to enter Patna city from Naubatpur ROB. This route will be accessible only to small vehicles. Large trucks will be rerouted from Beldari Chak to Masaurhi Mor via Gaurichak and Sampatchak, with entry permitted only between 10 pm and 5 am. Additionally, the number of vehicles allowed on Gandhi Setu will be regulated to prevent excessive congestion at Masaurhi Mor and Zeromile.
