Patna : Patna Traffic Police intensified enforcement against traffic violations during October 2026, recording 35,647 cases of riding without a helmet and 12,783 cases of driving without valid insurance. Fines imposed across the reported categories amounted to more than Rs 7.44 crore, according to the figures provided by the traffic authorities.

The enforcement drive also covered illegal parking, pollution certificate violations, speeding, traffic signal violations, triple riding, underage driving and other breaches of road safety rules.

The figures highlight the range of violations detected across the city and the continued focus on enforcing traffic regulations through digital monitoring and challan systems.

Helmet Violations Top October Challan List

Riding without a helmet was the most frequently recorded violation during October, with 35,647 cases reported.

Traffic rules require two-wheeler riders to wear helmets to reduce the risk of serious head injuries in road accidents. The high number of recorded cases indicates that helmet compliance remains a major road safety concern in Patna.

Police have repeatedly urged two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and follow traffic regulations. Enforcement measures are intended to improve compliance and encourage safer driving practices.

More Than 12,700 Vehicles Found Without Insurance

Driving without valid vehicle insurance was another major category, with 12,783 violations recorded during the month.

Fines imposed for these cases amounted to Rs 2,55,66,000, according to the reported figures.

Vehicle owners are required to maintain valid insurance as prescribed by law. Motorists should check the validity of their insurance and other essential documents before using their vehicles on public roads.

The high number of insurance-related violations also highlights the importance of document checks as part of traffic enforcement.

Over 8,800 No-Parking Violations Recorded

Illegal parking was another significant category during October, with 8,805 challans issued.

The traffic authorities imposed fines totalling Rs 67,94,500 for these violations.

Vehicles parked in restricted areas can obstruct traffic, reduce road capacity and create difficulties for pedestrians and emergency vehicles. Enforcement against illegal parking is intended to improve traffic flow, particularly on busy roads and at major intersections.

The reported figures place no-parking violations among the leading categories after helmet and insurance offences.

Thousands Of Pollution Certificate Violations Detected

Traffic authorities also recorded 4,246 cases involving missing or invalid pollution certificates during October.

Fines imposed for these violations totalled Rs 49,13,000.

A valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate helps establish whether a vehicle meets the applicable emission standards. Vehicle owners are expected to keep the required documents updated and comply with pollution-control regulations.

The enforcement figures indicate that checks extended beyond driving behaviour to include vehicle documentation and regulatory compliance.

Overspeeding And Traffic Signal Violations

The October figures also covered several violations that can increase the risk of road accidents.

Violation Cases recorded
Overspeeding 1,914
Traffic signal violations 2,125
Triple riding 1,562
Carrying excess passengers 808
Underage driving 551
Seat belt violations 928
Wrong-side driving 366

Overspeeding can reduce a driver’s ability to react to sudden changes in traffic, while ignoring signals and driving on the wrong side can put other road users at risk.

Triple riding and carrying more passengers than permitted can also compromise vehicle safety. Underage driving remains a serious concern because young, unlicensed drivers may lack the experience and legal authorisation required to operate vehicles.

The police have urged motorists to follow speed limits, obey traffic signals, use seat belts and avoid unsafe driving practices.

Digital Monitoring Supports Traffic Enforcement

Patna Traffic Police has been using digital systems to identify and record traffic violations. The reported enforcement process involves surveillance footage and electronic challan systems, including monitoring through the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and handheld devices.

These systems help officials identify certain violations and issue challans based on available records. Digital monitoring also supports enforcement at locations where traffic personnel may not be able to stop every vehicle for inspection.

The use of electronic systems is intended to strengthen oversight and make it easier to take action against motorists who violate traffic regulations.
