Patna: Traffic movement across Ashok Rajpath and parts of Patna City will remain restricted until December 28 as the city prepares for the 359th Prakashotsav of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, officials said on Wednesday.
As part of the arrangements, commercial vehicles have been barred from entering Patna City until Monday. Trucks and tractors coming from the Didarganj side will not be permitted to travel westwards on Ashok Rajpath and will instead be diverted via the New Bypass. Vehicles carrying essential goods to the market committee will be allowed limited access between 2am and 4am.
Additional restrictions will apply to smaller vehicles as well. Until 6am on December 27, autorickshaws and light commercial vehicles will not be allowed on the Gaighat–Purab Darwaza stretch of Ashok Rajpath. During this period, such vehicles will be diverted via Danka Imli, Nawab Bahadur Road, Sudarshan Path, Tulsi Mandi and the Agamkuan road overbridge to reach Patna Sahib, with the return route remaining the same.
From Paschim Darwaza to Purab Darwaza, all vehicular movement will be prohibited until 6am on December 28. Vehicles approaching from the east will be diverted at Morcha Road near Purab Darwaza, while traffic will be permitted between Gaighat and Paschim Darwaza.
Stricter curbs will be in place on December 26 during the Nagar Kirtan procession. From 4am until midnight, all vehicles will be barred from Ashok Rajpath between Gaighat and Didarganj. Traffic heading towards Patna City will be rerouted via Nawab Bahadur Road, Sudarshan Path and the Chowk Shikarpur road overbridge towards Patna Sahib station.
Designated parking facilities have been arranged at the Bazar Samiti in Didarganj, and near the Mangal Talab Chowk and Kangan Ghat Chowk police stations. Emergency access routes have also been earmarked: PMCH can be reached from Kangan Ghat via a right turn onto JP Ganga Path, while NMCH will remain accessible from Gaighat via Danka Imli.
Police have appealed to residents and commuters to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure smooth conduct of the religious celebrations.
