Patna: Patna University has released its academic calendar for the upcoming session, setting clear timelines for admissions and commencement of classes for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes. The university administration has directed all affiliated colleges, departments, course coordinators and the examination branch to strictly follow the schedule to ensure that the academic session begins on time.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh said the admission process for undergraduate courses will begin on May 9 and must be completed by July 7. An induction meeting for new students will be held on July 10, while regular and self-financed UG classes will start from July 11.
For postgraduate programmes, the admission process will begin on June 10 and continue until July 15. The induction meeting for PG students is scheduled for July 16, and classes will commence on July 17.
University officials said that if the calendar is implemented as planned, the academic session at Patna University will begin on schedule. In recent years, undergraduate classes often started only by late July or August, while postgraduate courses began even later. The new calendar has been prepared in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Raj Bhavan.
The university has also instructed departments to bring previous delayed academic schedules back on track as soon as possible. Admissions to most UG and PG programmes will again be conducted on the basis of marks rather than entrance examinations. However, entrance tests will be held for self-financed UG, PG and diploma courses, as well as professional programmes such as LLB, BBALLB and BFA.
According to the academic calendar, online applications for undergraduate admissions will be accepted until May 30, while applications for postgraduate programmes will be accepted until June 30. The university aims to complete UG admissions by July 7 and PG admissions by July 15.
Admissions to specialised courses such as PMIR, LLM, MEd, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, ESM, MSW, MCA, MJMC, MLIS, Music and ISM must be completed by July 25. Induction meetings for these courses will be held on July 27, and classes will begin on July 28.
The university has also scheduled readmission for UG programmes from June 10 to June 30.
Entrance tests for undergraduate courses will begin on June 12, while entrance tests for postgraduate programmes will start on July 8 and continue until July 12.
Dean of Students’ Welfare Prof. Kameshwar Pandit said that although there was an earlier proposal to introduce entrance tests for undergraduate admissions, the university decided to follow the uniform regulations issued by the Governor’s Secretariat for all universities in the state. He added that entrance tests can be conducted only with approval from the Raj Bhavan, and therefore the university has chosen to adhere to the existing uniform admission guidelines for now.
