Patna Women’s College Celebrates Carmel Feast with Spiritual and Cultural Events
Patna: Patna Women’s College marked its annual ‘Carmel Feast’ with a series of religious and cultural events held at the Veronica Auditorium on Sunday, a day ahead of the traditional observance.
The Carmel Feast, a significant event in the college’s calendar, honours Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of the Carmelite order. The observance expresses gratitude to Mother Mary for her support during the order’s formative years. This year’s programme began with a prayer dance set to the hymn “tu hi srishti karta, tu hi palanhara”, followed by a poignant performance of the hymn “hey himshikharini” by the college choir.
The celebration continued with a skit illustrating the origins of the Carmelite tradition. This performance depicted Prophet Elijah’s victory of faith over idolatry and was complemented by a contemporary dance celebrating the five elements associated with Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The audience responded with admiration to the evocative portrayals.
Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College, addressed attendees, extending her gratitude to all involved in making the event a success. She highlighted the significance of the Carmel Feast and the values upheld by the Carmel family.
The event was organised in two shifts and hosted by Tanya Jha from the History Department and Vaishnavi Suman from Political Science. The vote of thanks was delivered by Shrishti Tiwari, Premier of the Student Council 2024-25. The celebration was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History; Enakshi Dey Biswas, Coordinator of Performing Arts; and Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce.
