Patna Women's College Continues Orientation Programme for New Academic Batch

Patna: The second day of the three-day Orientation Programme for the new academic batch of UG 2024-2028 and PG 2024-2026 of Patna Women’s College (PWC) took place on Tuesday, in the Veronica Auditorium. The event commenced with the College Anthem, led by Sister Nelsa A.C., Assistant Professor in the Department of English.

Professor Shefali Roy, Director of the Institute of Public Administration at Patna University, served as the resource person for the day. She delivered a compelling lecture on gender awareness, emphasizing the importance of gender equality and equity. Prof. Roy highlighted the distinction between gender, a social construct, and sex, a biological construct. She also discussed how societal perspectives on gender affect the needs of women compared to men and explained the gender perspective of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Following Prof. Roy’s session, Dr. Manjula Sushila, Head of the Department of Hindi and Sports Coordinator, along with Shweta Singh, Sports Teacher at PWC, conducted a recreational session featuring Taali-Yoga.

Dr. Sister M. Tanisha A.C., Vice-Principal of PWC, then familiarized the students with the college’s vision, mission, and objectives. Dr. Sumeet Ranjan followed with a presentation on the importance of environmental conservation. He emphasized the roles students should play in protecting the environment, focusing on water and electricity conservation, hygiene, and sustainable development. Dr. Ranjan introduced the students to the college’s green policy and initiatives, such as the ECO Task Force and SRISHTI Environment Club.

The session concluded with an overview of the Placement and Career Counselling Cell at PWC. Adweetiya Sinha, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and member of the Placement Core Committee, informed the students about the placement drives, workshops, student support, counselling services, and campus facilities available to them.

The entire event was organized by Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History and Cultural Coordinator; Enakshi Dey Biswas, Coordinator of Performing Arts and Cultural Coordinator; and Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce. The session was moderated by Varsha Shankar, Jt. General Secretary of the Student Council 2024-25.
