Patna Women’s College hosts Christmas celebration for ragpicker children
Patna: The Department of History at Patna Women’s College, organised a Christmas Milan event on Tuesday as part of its Ragpickers Education and Development Scheme (REDS). The programme aimed to bring joy to children under the REDS initiative through a day of festive activities.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr Sister Celine Crasta AC, head of the Department of History, who greeted the children and set the tone for the celebration. The programme featured Christmas carols, dances, and a skit performed for the children, followed by two energetic dance performances presented by the children themselves, which were met with enthusiasm from the audience.
The celebrations continued with a series of games that engaged the children, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere. A surprise visit by Santa Claus proved to be the highlight of the day, bringing smiles and excitement to all present.
Brother Victor, director of REDS, addressed the gathering, while dignitaries including Sister Jincy AC, superior of Avila Convent, Dr Ameeta Jaiswal, head of the Department of Philosophy, and Dr Shobha Shrivastava, head of the Department of Zoology, attended the event. Gifts were distributed to the children as part of the programme, adding to the festive spirit.
The event was organised under the guidance of Dr Sister Celine Crasta AC, with Dr Shreya Singh and Dr Pratibha Singh, assistant professors in the Department of History, serving as teachers-in-charge. Students Tanya Jha and Shubhangi Singh from Semester VI moderated the proceedings, while Tashneem Nigar, also from Semester VI, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event successfully spread the message of Christmas, bringing joy and hope to the children while highlighting the college’s ongoing efforts to support underprivileged communities.
